A striking and yet understated design, the Edwardian Corbel is illustrative of both the Georgian revival that was in effect during this period and the innovations in Victorian chimneypieces. A popular late 19th century design with plain jambs and frieze and simple moulded corbel supporting a generous mantel shelf.

It is reminiscent of early Neo-Classical pieces in its satisfying proportions and monumental presence, but is a good deal more austere. It lacks any intricate carved details, or architectural mouldings, the only real ornamental features being the sturdy corbels which support the deep mantle shelf, both of which are characteristic of Victorian fireplaces.  Shown with the Ashbee register grate and slate hearth.
