The pilasters on this Edinburgh marble fireplace are curved and reeded with diagonal ribbons. They are intersected by an enriched paterae featuring a rosette. The slim but deep mantel shelf has finely reeded edges. Shown with a steel Andover register grate and black slate hearthstone.

The Edinburgh, like its namesake the urban canvas which the great Neo-classical architect Robert Adam left his mark on so indelibly, is both elegant and distinctive. Ribbon-tied reeded moulding on the jambs and entablature allude to its antique heritage, whilst square panels bearing finely carved flower roundels feature instead of capitals. Less architectural than other designs, the relief carving in the Edinburgh is light and the flower roundels are the most prominent decorative feature. This is a subtle, balanced design that is perfectly suited to the integrity of white marble.
