The essence of the Reeded Regency Bullseye is its simplicity. This is a Regency style white marble surround with reeded jambs and frieze with bullseye capitals. A Neo-classical influence is evident, but it is as if it has been distilled into its purest form, leaving only the shapes behind. The jambs and the entablature are characterized by deeply etched reeding, and resemble architectural pilasters. Above the jambs a pair of bullseyes sit respectively, striking in their square panels and in the vigorous engraving but otherwise quite uncomplicated. Shown with the Britton no. 3 register grate and slate hearth. |
