The Classic Victorian fireplace, in the purity of its form and decorative restraint, epitomises the simplicity of style associated with early Classical (and particularly Doric) architecture. This fire surround neatly avoids the overtly allusive motifs often associated with Neo-Classicism, and is essentially classically Victorian in appearance. Its moderately large size (width 1346 mm, height 1137 mm) and bold style create a stunningly simple focal point for the right interior. The Classic Victorian makes sparse but thoughtful use of a few subtle, traditional details. The jambs are tailored via neat angling to appear to be resting on broad block feet, standing several inches forward from the entablature. In the absence of capitals or corbels the jambs are broken at the level of the frieze by a carved architrave, the only prominent carving in the entire surround. This detail enhances the symmetry of the model, balancing the mantel shelf and block feet and drawing attention to the perfect weighting of the jambs relative to the entablature. The mantelpiece is not as deep as that of many other models (depth 140 mm), making the Classic Victorian a versatile fire surround which works in smaller rooms. In addition, this fireplace is available in either Limestone or Marble with different finishes, in order to best complement your interior.
